November 29, 1942: Anniston, AL. The Pickwick Restaurant encouraged Christmas shoppers to make the café a part of their everyday life. The restaurant, located at 923 Noble Street, offered good food at economical prices. The business was billed as “Anniston’s Most Popular Restaurant”.
November 30, 1955: Fort McClellan, AL. The Hub celebrated the grand-opening of this new restaurant. R. C. Cantor opened the restaurant near the middle gate of the military base. The operation hours were 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the menu include steak, shrimp, fish, and chicken. The business closed all day on Tuesday and billed itself as a place where there was “no dancing, no drinking, just good eating”.
December 1, 1918: Anniston, AL. The Wells Theatre, at 1112 Noble Street, announced a showing of Charlie Chaplin’s “Shoulder Arms”. This was a propaganda movie in support of World War I and was the first new Chaplin film in a year. The theatre had no advance reservation but sold tickets for 5 cents and 15 cents.
December 2, 1933: Anniston, AL. Huguley’s opened at 1123 Noble Street and offered credit to all customers. The store sold women’s dresses, coats, hosiery, underwear, and millinery as well as men’s suits, overcoats, shoes, shirts, and furnishings.
December 3, 1920: Anniston, AL. Thompson Mercantile Company held a reorganization sale. The shoe store, located at 1007 Noble Street, offered “Buster Browns” for kids, “Maxine” for women and “White House” brands for men.
December 4, 1902: Anniston, AL. Shelnutt Trade Palace, at 1212 Noble Street, announced the company had recently purchased the entire stock of clothing from John F. Cook. The store offered reduced prices on the winter clothing merchandise. In addition, the company had also purchased the entire stock of Anniston Grocery Company, so groceries were reduced in price for this sale.
December 5, 1903: Anniston, AL. Local Dentist J. A. Dubose offered teeth extraction for 50 cents. Dr. Dubose had an office at 1121 Noble Street where he saw patients from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. His prices for dental care were conservative.
