December 27, 1925: Anniston, AL. The Cryer Clothing Store, in the 1000 Block of Noble Street, announced the “Great Bankruptcy Sale”. The store’s entire stock had to be liquidated for cash. James C. Cryer operated the store while his brother, George, worked in the public health sector.
December 28, 1939: Anniston, AL. The Betty Lee Shop, at 1128 Noble Street, advertised a sale on coats. The coats sold for between $6.99 and 19.99. As well as the coat sale, the shop offered the entire stock of suede shoes on sale for ½ price.
December 29, 1921: Anniston, AL. Wilder and Davis offered a holiday sale on men’s and boys clothes. The business was a dry goods store located at 1222 Noble Street. The pair had been partners since February 1916 with the original store on 15th Street when the business moved to Noble Street.
December 30, 1918: Camp McClellan, AL. It was announced that twelve American-made, French-style 155mm guns arrived for training purposes at the military installation. The guns were unloaded at the Anniston steel plant on 10th Street because the military lacked derricks to unload the 4 to 9-ton machines. The gun machines were then driven up Noble Street and into the camp.
December 31, 1916: Anniston, AL. Murphy Furniture Company announced the business was moving to 924 Noble Street in the Opera House Building on January 1st. The move required the furniture company to liquidate some of their stock because the new headquarters could not hold all the inventory. Patrons were notified of reduction on the current stock of furniture at the business’ 1214 Noble Street location.
January 1, 1943: Anniston, AL. The Russell Brothers, who had operated in the city of the past 60 years, announced their entire line gift line had been sold to Mrs. Frances Couch. Mrs. Couch was a graduate of Columbia University with a concentration in Arts. Russell Brothers had their studio at 1021 Noble Street but the location for the new business under Mrs. Couch’s direction would be announced at a later date.
January 2, 1938: Calhoun County, AL. Lister Hill was asking for locals to support and endorse him in the upcoming January election. He was a supporter of Franklin Roosevelt’s policies. The democratic politician also was a supporter of farmers.
